- Packet-Radio Digest Sat, 4 JuGuten Abend
- @UCSD.Edu
-
- Sorry if everyone else went through all this ages ago, but I've only just
- got to the stage where there are enough people running tcp/ip locally to make
- routing a problem. We tried RIP and found it to be nearly useless (maybe we
- didn't set it up properly; I don't know) because it ended up chasing itself
- around in circles after a day or two. RSPF seems better once it's up and
- running, but therein lies the problem.
-
- We have NOS configured so that there are no manual routes and no arp add
- entries in autoexec.nos. When NOS is started, it has no routes at all until
- it sees an rspf RRH (?) packet from someone else; then it updates from that
- and then it all operates normally. The questionGuten Abend
- suppose I could
- do without jumpstart, but I'd rather not. The only way I can get traffic out
- of my system before receiving any updates is by adding routes manually, and I
- don't consider that a good solution.
-
- One other problem we're having is based on the fact that we're using
- different IP addresses for each frequency: thus my 2m port is 44.136.204.11
- and my 70cm port is 44.136.204.13. I seem to remember that it says somewhere
- in the NOS manual that this is necessary (although I'm not certain why). It's
- worked fine until now, but rspf (and RIP as well) wouldn't broadcast other
- IP addresses on the same machine. We run rspf on 70cm only at this time (we'll
- try it on 2m as well once we get the bugd we have different IP addresses for different ports (channels)?
- If so, why? If not, why not?
-
- - If we should, then how do we get the routes to the other ports
- broadcasted
- by rspf or RIP?

- In response to the question about running G8BPQ in a
- Desqview window, I've been playing with this now for
- several months. My arrangement is the AA4RE BBS ver

- attached to provide 9600 baud access to the board.
- Currently I run G8BPQ before Desqview. In fact, some-
- where in the G8BPQ docs it says that there have been
- problems running it in a desqü|îijéΦéזé¡é©é¡éøé±éכÉlé≡ÆméIJéגéóéΘé⌐éτüiÄdÄûèץé∞éגüjüAâvâëâCâxü[âgéזùÃìséדéñ
- view window. I can
- confirm this. For the last two weeks I ran G8BPQ in
- a window and occasionally strange things would happen.
- Mostly, the problem is that someone would log into the
- board, get the sign on message, but then when it went
-
- to determine how many messages the user would see if
- he typed "L", it would just stop. The computer wasn't
- necessarily hung up at this point, it would just stop
- sending or receiving data from the user. Also from
